Does Ephesians 6:10-20 Still Apply Today
Ephesians 6:10-20,
"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—
and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel,
for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak."
The hyper preterists would have you believe the whole armor is no longer needed or necessary because the "devil" also known as the high priest in their doctrine, has been destroyed and therefore this armor doesn't apply to anyone today.
They tell us Revelation 20:10 is fulfilled already which says,
"The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever."
So you can see if the devil has been cast into the lake of eternal fire already then Ephesians 6:10-20 by logical conclusion is fulfilled. Many of us have heard several sermons over the years on Ephesians 6. And imagine the shock of learning there are teachers and preachers out there teaching Ephesians 6 doesn't apply to you today. There are no "wiles" of the devil because the devil has been destroyed. Now I understand Jesus destroyed the works of the devil when He came and fulfilled the law and was put to death and resurrected. He left us the word by which we are saved which proves the works of the devil are destroyed.. 1 Corinthians 15:1-2
""Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.""
See, If we hold fast to the word By which we are saved we can also destroy the works of the devil, each and every one of us. That's how we also know he may not be completely destroyed yet but the word is what binds him. The devil is bound and cannot deceive the nations or anyone by that which saves us from him, which is the Word by which we are saved. The Word is that Armor we need to withstand him and his wiles and trickery so that he cannot deceive us. until the Lord's return. If you reject the word, you deceive yourself and he can help deceive you all the more. But if you belong to Christ he cannot deceive you IF you stand firm in the Word which saved you from his wiles and your flesh.
Keep in mind if A.D. 7-0 was the fulfillment of all things, the destruction of the devil, and the resurrection and judgement are past and Ephesians 6 and Revelation 20-22 is fulfilled 2000 years ago, then this post is moot. We're all men most pitiable as Paul said to the church at Corinth,
"If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable."
